I have no connection to Chicago, other than the fact that this would look great in my office.
Tell yourself at every step in the design process that someone has undoubtedly already thought of this and what can you do to really set it apart. In design, and particularly logo design, the pessimistic axiom that “everything has already been done” is becoming more and more true, and it is only the virtuous designer who can continue to stand out in a sea of sameness.

“A snippet from Jess Gibson’s Draplin Project. Design-wise, if this doesn’t get your blood boiling, it isn’t ever going to boil. Language not safe for work but perfectly appropriate to the issue.”

If you’re not prepared to being wrong, you’ll never be original.

Interesting new 37signals method of getting Highrise users to upgrade their accounts. A limited production, get it before it’s gone, type sale.
I think this sale would be much more effective if they said 20% off for life or at least a year, for the first 100 people. Then even if you don’t have a need for an upgraded account right now, you still might go for it, thinking “well, we *might* need it soon”.
